In Motion | March 2026

In our March edition of In Motion, we are excited to announce the upcoming launch of EtherNet/IP connectivity, which is now open for early access registration. This edition also features an application story with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where we are seeing ORCA™ motors used in an agricultural robotic system for smart weed detection and control. We've provided two new technical notes on the fundamentals of speed and acceleration control, as well as the use of IrisControls Live View plots for accessing real-time performance data. Finally, we invite you to view our latest tutorial, which demonstrates how to fully set up the ORCA motor in 10 minutes or less.

EtherNet/IP Connectivity Coming Soon || Enabling Direct Integration into PLC-Based Systems

ORCA-EIP coming soon - reply to this email to learn more

ORCA-EIP offers deterministic, synchronized multi-axis control of up to four ORCA™ motors. If PLC-based automation systems are a part of your workflow, this is for you.

ORCA™ Motor Powered See-N-Till Agricultural Robotic System for Smart Weed Control || University of Nebraska-Lincoln Application Story

ORCA-15-48V Integrated in the See-N-Till robotic system

Researchers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln developed an agricultural robot, See-N-Till, to eliminate harmful weeds that interfere with crop growth. See-N-Till features a smart rotary tiller mechanism that detects weeds in real time and mechanically extracts them without damaging the surrounding soil. The ORCA-15-48V responds instantly to weed detection, with a 3 kHz response rate.

"This all-in-one system definitely saved me a lot of time. When I received the [ORCA motor] it included the mounting hardware to connect directly to the joints."

- Amlan Balabantaray, Project Lead

Speed & Acceleration Control || For Smooth, Predictable Motion from Position Commands

Speed and acceleration [GIF]

Do your position commands change abruptly? Does your external controller lack trajectory generation? Does your application require smooth and safe motion? ORCA motors convert raw position commands into smooth, speed-limited motion automatically.

✓ Prevents aggressive motion from abrupt commands.

✓ Reduces overshoot and mechanical stress.

✓ Allows tighter PID tuning without instability.

✓ Reduces reliance on sophisticated external trajectory generation.
