In October 2025, Iris Dynamics exhibited at PDX 2025, a hands-on practical training engineering exposition hosted by Pipeline Design & Engineering in Phoenix, Arizona. This event was far from a traditional trade show. With embedded training sessions taking place at each exhibitor's booth, it provided an opportunity for engineers developing physical products to improve their designs, reduce costly mistakes, and consult with expert engineers. Attendees were encouraged to bring their design and manufacturing challenges to the show, and we were happy to troubleshoot in real time, review designs, and collaborate on effective solutions to accelerate development. PRODUCTS USED: ORCA-6-24V
Our latest demonstration features the ORCA-6-24V smart linear motor and its inherent force-feedback and sensing capabilities. Operated in both haptic mode and kinematic mode, the pre-programmable motor is set to reach a specific position, with native force sensing stopping the shaft upon detecting the egg so as not to break it. Traditional force-feedback systems use high-voltage servos coupled with high-resolution external load cells and a low-backlash gear train to create a fully closed-loop system. ORCA Motors, on the other hand, integrate all of these capabilities into the motor chassis through an all-in-one design that encompasses position and force sensing, motor drivers, and controllers in a closed-loop system, eliminating the need for external load cells and gearboxes. This creates a low-latency, high-accuracy solution that is simple to set up, install, and operate.
